The Isle of Wight Firefighter Memorials
As explained elsewhere on this site, the Isle of Wight fire and Rescue Service merged with the Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service on 1 April 2021 and so the Memorial Garden at the service headquarters in Eastleigh does not have names from the Isle of Wight prior to the merger.
On the Island however there is a memorial plaque located inside Shanklin fire station, Landguard Road, Shanklin, PO37 7HU, dedicated to the 13 members of the National Fire Service who were killed when their fire station received a direct hit during an attack on the Island during WW2. They are also recorded at the site of the War Memorial at the junction of High Street and Chine Avenue, Shanklin.
For an Island of relatively small area, it suffered a high figure during World War 2, when it was targeted a number of times due to both strategic importance and close location to the often targeted Southampton and Portsmouth.
Inside Ryde fire station, there is also a memorial wall containing names.
