The London Fire Brigade Memorial Hall
Opened in July 1937, the new LFB Headquarters and fire station incorporated a ‘Memorial Hall’ which still exists today and contains three separate large commemorative tablet tributes, together with a small version of the Firefighters Memorial as is located adjacent St Pauls Cathedral.
One of the tablet tributes, refers to the Blitz of WW2 and contains the names of those members of the brigade who died in the course of their duties during this period.
The site for the building was previously the scene of a fire brigade tragedy when seven LFB firemen died fighting a fire at the premises of J H Brantom & Co Ltd, cattle foodstuff manufacturers in the early hours of 30 January 1918.
This remains the largest number of members of the LFB to have died at a single incident, not related to wartime activity.
